GALL BLADDER

GALL BLADDER

  • Gall bladder is a part of human body.
  • It is included in Gastro-intestinal system.
  • It is the vessel storing bile after its secretion by the liver and before release into the intestine.
  • together with the hepatic ducts and the bile ducts, the gall bladder forms part of the human billiary system.
  • Bile, an alkaline fluid secreted by the liver, drains through the hepatic ducts to the gall bladder, where it is stored in concentrated form.
  • When food is consumed, the gall bladder releases bile via the cystic duct and common bile duct to the stomach, where the bile aids digestion of fats.
  • Gall bladder stores and concentrates bile and contracts to force bile into the duodenum during the digestion of fats.
  • The cystic duct joins the hepatic duct to form the common bile duct.
  • The sphincter of Oddi is located at the entrance to the duodenum.
  • The presence of fatty materials in the duodenum stimulates the liberation of cholecystokinin, which causes contraction of the gall bladder and relaxation of the sphincter of Oddi.
